The STIHL Effluent Reuse project, planning of which began in 2019, is an outstanding example of sustainability and resource conservation. Its main objective is to reduce the production process’s dependence on public drinking water supplies, while conserving natural as well as financial resources.
STIHL Brazil has invested four million real (approximately 680,000 euros as at July 2024) in implementing a technology that makes it possible to treat and reuse water resources in the production process. The result is that at least 50 percent of the treated water is reused.
BENCHMARKS SOUGHT – AND FOUND
“This project went through several phases to validate its technical feasibility”, explains Cláudio Guenther, Managing Director of STIHL Brazil. This also included visiting other Brazilian companies which have already successfully put into practice projects for the reprocessing and reuse of water in the production process. These benchmarking visits helped to develop the STIHL project into a modular model that can be easily expanded in the future. The treated water will be drinkable, and will support production steps that require particularly large volumes of high-quality water.
